Lillian Niwagaba

Lillian Butungi Niwagaba is a higher education expert with experience in global health management, comparative and international education, workforce and program development, and international service learning. She serves as the Director of the Center for Global Health and Assistant Professor in the Clinical Specialties department at New York Institute of Technology.

Lillian Niwagaba has extensive experience in planning, overseeing and assessing undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate global health and other service learning programs. She has also directed and taught courses for international service learning, cultural humility and ethics for global health rotations.

Lillian Niwagaba earned a doctorate in Higher Education with a focus on comparative and international education from the University of North Texas (UNT). While pursuing the degree, she served as a graduate services assistant and research communication and information specialist at the university, guiding the Africa Task Force in partnership agreements with various schools at UNT and African universities. She holds an M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University (SMU) and earned a bachelor’s degree from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda where she worked in Local Government Administration as Assistant District Commissioner for Kampala District.

Passionate about comparative and international education, admissions, global health and development, Lillian Niwagaba serves on the Board of the Kellerman Foundation (KF) which provides health and hope in rural areas in southwestern Uganda. Previously, she served on the board of Rainbow Days, Inc (RDI) in Dallas, Texas and Uganda Christian University Partners (UCUP). Her research agenda revolves around university partnerships, global health and medical education, comparative education, community engagement and service learning impact on host communities.
